Adiantum raddianum

Adiantum raddianum  C. Presl

Familia ADIANTACEAE
Culantrillo

Commonly known as the maidenhair fern, Venus fern or delta maidenhair fern, it is one of the world’s most popular and elegant indoor ferns. It belongs to the Pteridaceae family and is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of South America. Its botanical name refers to the water-repellent nature of its leaves (Adiantum means ‘that which does not get wet’), and it stands out visually for its triangular fronds, composed of small, bright pale green leaflets, and its characteristic dark, slender, glossy stems that resemble human hair.
It usually grows to between 40 and 50 cm in height and a similar width, forming dense, hanging clumps that are very attractive.
Ideal for indoor pots, enclosed terrariums or rooms with high humidity, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Although prized for its sleek, feathery beauty, it is considered a ‘diva’ plant because it requires very specific environmental conditions and does not tolerate neglect when it comes to watering:
It requires bright but indirect or filtered light. Direct sunlight easily burns its delicate leaves.
The soil must be kept consistently moist but never waterlogged. Do not allow the soil to dry out completely, as the leaves will wilt immediately and irreversibly. It is recommended to water with lukewarm or rainwater.
This is the most critical factor. It needs high and constant humidity levels. It thrives much better if placed on a saucer filled with pebbles and water (without the pot touching the water), near a humidifier, or grouped with other plants.
