Adenium obesum
(Forssk.) Roem. y Schult.
Desert rose
In its natural state, it is a shrub or small tree that grows to between one and three metres in height,
although as an ornamental plant it is sold as a small, branched and compact potted shrub,
with the appearance of a very exotic plant and beautiful flowers.

One of the most striking features of this plant is its caudex, a thickening at the base of its trunk which acts as a water reservoir.
Aesthetically, this unusual tendency to thicken its main stem gives it a certain bonsai-like appearance.
Furthermore, this characteristic enables it to store water, allowing it to withstand periods of drought very well.
