Aloe marlothii

Mountain aloe
Mountain aloe, as this species is commonly known, is a
succulent plant belonging to the aloe family. It is endemic to South Africa and Madagascar,
although it is grown as an ornamental plant in many countries.

It has leaves clustered in a large rosette and a single stem that can grow to a height of almost 8 metres. The leaves are fleshy, narrow, lanceolate, long and bluish-green in colour;
their margins are lined with sharp reddish spines. Some varieties have leaves entirely covered in spines.
It produces a profusion of bright orange tubular flowers. The inflorescences of this aloe do not hang down; they are upright and highly branched.
The arrangement of the stem and the floral branches is reminiscent of a candelabra. It is very similar to Aloe ferox.
